March
Also during March club riders take part in the annual Training Weekend, riding down to the coast on Saturday, spending the night in Eastbourne and riding back the next day. This gives us a chance to get some serious miles in before the summer sets in.
We will be heading down to the Newport indoor track with our indoor track specialist, Roger Jackaman, to try our hand at fixed-wheel track cycling around a banked wooden oval – fast, furious and great fun.
April
For the first time in a while we are running an open Time Trial. We have decided to run a 10 mile TT on the Bentley course on the A31.
At the end of April, one of our most popular events takes place - the annual week-long trip to the cycling mecca of Mallorca. Expertly run by Gary Blobby Smith, the club has been going there for over 20 years, staying in Puerto Pollensa in the North of the island. This year over 50 intrepid cyclists will be setting off to tackle the varied contours and terrain available on the island.
From April until September there are 10 Club & Inter-Club Time Trials (with Epsom CC) - distances are 10 and 25 miles, 22kms and a 1 mile hill climb.
May Our now only CycloSportive of the year takes place, as it's name suggests during May. This event, run by Dudley Samuels and now in its 13th running, has been growing in popularity and offers cyclists the choice of two alternative distances – 50 miles and a tough 85 mile route down to Amberley in Sussex. Leaving from Cobham, this is promising to be the biggest and best yet!. Last year there was 400 entries and this year we are hoping for more.
