SWRC “Early Spring” 100km Cyclosportive – Sunday March 4th 2007 Start 9.30am.

After last year’s hugely successful event, the South Western Road Club kicks off the Cyclosportive season again on March 4th with an “Early Spring” 100km route across the North Downs and into Sussex and back. This is a great opportunity for all you hardened riders who have been training through the cold winter months to check out your fitness.

Once again, the fully sign-posted route starts at Fetcham Village Hall (near Leatherhead just off M25 Jcn 9) and winds its way over the North Downs via the long and tough Leith Hill climb (highest point in SE England). It then meanders across the undulating Surrey and Sussex countryside as far as Wisborough Green and returning over the North Downs via the short and sharp ascent of Combe Bottom. With over 1,250 metres of climbing, the event will certainly stretch a few legs at this point in the season!

Last year’s event attracted a sizeable turnout (read ‘Big’ Simon and Andrew’s account on this website - http://www.cyclosport.co.uk/article.aspx?id=84) so do get your entry in early to guarantee a place.

Route: The Sportive is fully sign-posted throughout with yellow boards at every junction/crossing. A map is issued to every rider as a back-up but this shouldn’t be needed on the

day. With over 1,250 metres of climbing, and crossing the North Downs twice, it is reasonably challenging. There is a tea-stop at the half way check point at Fisher’s Farm nr. Wisborough Green. The majority of the event takes place on quiet country lanes with the occasional busier road. Cyclists are strongly recommended to wear a helmet and are reminded that they are responsible for their own and other cyclists safety at all times.

Awards: The event is not a race although all riders completing the ride will be awarded a certificate of merit.
