TIME TRIALS
South Western Road Club hold a programme of time trialling events (racing against the clock) throughout the season from March to September. The programme includes a series of evening events open to club members, a series of inter-club events held jointly with Epsom CC and two Hill Climbs. Some of the club events are designated as 2Ups which are time trials for a t eam of two. These prove very popular and are an ideal way to get your first taste of this aspect of cycling especially if you team up with one of the old hands. Many of our serious time triallists also take part in Open events organised by other clubs around the country. There are usually several to choose from, over distances from 10 miles to 100 miles, not too far away most weekends and there are even a few 12 hour and 24 hour events for those who really get the time trial bug.

In 2005 two of the clubs long standing time trial records were broken. Paul Alderson increased the 24 hour record from 401.68mls to 431.83mls (a record which has stood since 1967) and Ruth Hutton broke the womens 25 mile record with a time of 1hr 0min 45sec (beating Caroline Schoutens 1988 record by over a minute). Simon our Time Trial Secretary will be only too pleased to see more existing or new members entering the time trialling scene and will gladly answer any queries you may have. You never know, you could find yourself walking away with one of our trophies at the end of the season. South Western Road Club are affiliated to ‘Cycling Time Trials’ (formerly the Time Trials Council). [Action from last year’s 2UP Time trial pictured]
